How Life Changes So Quickly

Image
Proverbs 27:8 "Like a bird that flees its nest is anyone who flees from home." Wow - two things (well, maybe 3 LOL 4) struck me with this one today. 1 - a baby bird actually fleeing the nest. What usually awaits them? A cat! LOL But really, the dangers of the world. The extreme fall to the ground. Other animals that want to eat it. If it is near humans, then kids that want to play with it. On and on the dangers from 'leaving the nest/fleeing' too soon. 2 - teenagers that want to "flee" from home too soon. So excited to "live on their own" and do things their way! They end up putting themselves in harms way, much like the baby bird. They do not have the life experiences behind them to see the dangers around the corner. Like the baby bird, they end up learning the hard way most of the time. Some survive, some get hurt, some end up realizing their mistakes and come back for advise and or help. 3 - people that leave a church "home" for v...

Watch Your Step

Proverbs 24:11 "Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter."     Wow - this hit me in to BIG visuals today! 1- for those lost in sin and separated from God. 2- for those in the weight loss community, especially those who have had weight loss surgery (like me). Seeing someone walk towards a dangerous situation/place/thing - we normally would do something and try to stop them, right?!?! Like, if you were at the Grand Canyon and someone was walking too close to the edge, or not looking where they were going while trying to take a picture... you would speak up, right? If someone was using a saw, and they were not fully holding the wood right and you could see that they were in the path of getting hurt, you would speak up right?! When someone is being led astray from doing and living good, and you see the people they are hanging around and the places they are going are going to lead to trouble, we speak up right?! Ummmmm - yeah, that one ...

Wake Up - You Are Alive

Amos 5:14-15 (NIV) Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you, just as you say He is. Hate evil, love good; maintain justice in the courts. Perhaps the Lord God Almighty will have mercy on the remnant of Joseph.      Wow! What a great reminder today of what and how we should be. Why? So that we may live! Ok, so some of us "living" is a bit different than others - but even if we have a harder "life" than someone else, we don't have to worry or fear - because the Lord God Himself, the Almighty King of kings WILL BE WITH US! God DOES have mercy on each and every one of us EVERY day! I'm sure we are all aware of several ways, but there are thousands of ways that go unseen or unnoticed by us each day, I'm sure of it! We all are in the 'remnant of Joseph' in some way shape or form. We all come from the linage of the people in the old testament.      Today, seek the things God desires us to seek, and stay awa...

Let Go Of Your Past & Look Ahead

Zephaniah 1:4-6 (MSG) "I'll start with Judah and everybody who lives in Jerusalem. I'll sweep the place clean of every trace of the sex-and-religion Baal shrines and their priests. I'll get rid of the people who sneak up to their rooftops at night to worship the star gods and goddesses; Also those who continue to worship God but cover their bases by worshiping other king-gods as well. Not to mention those who've dumped God altogether, no longer giving Him a thought or offering a prayer."      Wow - the book of Zephaniah starts with some pretty harsh judgments on the people of Judah. I see this in our lives today too. We have fallen as a nation/country/world to these false gods and religions. We have turned away from worshiping God and God alone. The parts that jumped out at me, are things I used to do: sneak up to my rooftop to worship the stars, moon, and sun - false gods and goddesses. How sad that must have been for God! To watch His beloved daughter (me)...

How To Get Back On Track

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)   " All scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip His people to do every good work."      As we begin another new year, we all try and think of things we want to do better in our lives. Habits we want to change, things we want to accomplish, places we want to go.... According to these verses, ALL of scripture is useful in one way or another. To guide us out of troubles we find ourselves in and to protect us from choices we might make. How do we "get back on track" for the new year? Well, the easiest way I have found, is reading a Proverb each day that goes along with the date. So on the 1st of the month you read Proverbs 1. Then on the 2nd you read Proverbs 2. This way, if you miss a day for some reason, you just start on the 'date/day' you pick back up on....
