How To Get Back On Track
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV) "All scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip His people to do every good work."
As we begin another new year, we all try and think of things we want to do better in our lives. Habits we want to change, things we want to accomplish, places we want to go.... According to these verses, ALL of scripture is useful in one way or another. To guide us out of troubles we find ourselves in and to protect us from choices we might make. How do we "get back on track" for the new year? Well, the easiest way I have found, is reading a Proverb each day that goes along with the date. So on the 1st of the month you read Proverbs 1. Then on the 2nd you read Proverbs 2. This way, if you miss a day for some reason, you just start on the 'date/day' you pick back up on. There are 30 chapters in the book of Proverbs, so you just read somewhere else on the 31st. If something doesn't "jump out at you" from the Proverbs, then do the same thing with any other book in the bible. Another easy book to add is the Psalms. Reading the same chapters over and over each month will NOT get boring!! Because the bible is the living and breathing words of God, it changes in how it speaks to you each time you read it! Pretty stinkin' awesome to me!!
Why I read the Proverbs each month: for the exact reason these verses say "to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right." Each and every time I read the Proverbs, something different jumps out to me. We are in a 'training" of sorts. Being trained by God, put together and shaped for the tasks God has for us. I am absolutely amazed at this! How He uses simple, ordinary, flawed people like me to do His work here on earth. Wow!
Happy New Year! Be realistic in your "resolutions" and don't set yourself up for failure. Yes, make goals and desire to reach for things to do differently, but make them things that you CAN do or reach. If you don't understand what "that" looks like, then start reading a chapter each day in Proverbs. You'll have a "light bulb moment" in one of them, and then just watch all of the blessings that come your way!! I'm praying for you, your day, your week, your month, and even your year. That you draw closer to God in every area of your life. That you will count your blessings each and every day. You will find small ways to bless others which in turn blesses you. I pray for safety, strength, courage, and wisdom as you journey this chapter of your life. I pray that you know, feel, believe and understand that God LOVES you through thick and thin, and He will NEVER leave you! Jesus lives inside you and will always help you find a creative way to escape the trials you might go through. Have a wonderful and productive year filled with blessings!
