How Do You Measure Success
1 Timothy 4:3-5 “They will say it is wrong to be married and wrong to eat certain foods. But God created those foods to be eaten with thanks by faithful people who know the truth. Since everything God created is good, we should not reject any of it but receive it with thanks. For we know it is made acceptable by the word of God and prayer."
Following rituals or religions or even strict diets, where certain 'foods' are considered wrong, need to be examined. Need to be prayed about. Yes, 'man' has made a lot of foods that are filled with harmful things, but God created good foods. Being 'thankful' for what we eat, praying over the food, asking for God to bless us with health and nourishment - is a GREAT way to start each meal.
However, deliberately eating unhealthy or harmful things - well, we most likely will not be blessed in those choices. However, you can NEVER go wrong with eating things you could actually pick from a tree or above the ground. I wish I knew how to garden, and wasn't afraid of bugs! But I have a very thankful heart to everyone that does garden and provide good food for us! We need to not just pray before "eating" our food, but before we plan and prepare it too! Asking for the Lord to guide and direct us in our 'choices' BEFORE we choose them. He is a God of order, He will guide us in good and right choices, now - we just need to listen! Praise the Lord following Deuteronomy 8:10 - "When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land He has given you." When you are "satisfied". It doesn't say "when you are full" and it certainly doesn't say "when you are stuffed" - but 'satisfied'. We DO have a say-so and we DO have control over what goes in our mouth! Even when others serve our plate for us, we can actually use something that is with us ALL the time, to measure what "our" portion should be. Can you guess what that is? It is our hands! That's right, we have these with us all the time, so we have NO excuse for overeating. The palm of your hand equals protein. The length of your hand equals veggies. Your fingers folded over equals a carb or starch. Your thumb tip (at the first bend) equals butter, sauce, or oil (1 tablespoon). Your index finger tip equals 1 teaspoon. Then if you stand your hand in a fist, pinky side down (like you are holding a cup) that is 1 glass of beverage (8oz). Pretty neat, right?!?! A total serving of a "meal"should fit in both of your cupped hands. A "snack" should fit in ONE hand cupped. I am praying you start using the tools God gave you, to be successful in your choices. Be blessed in your choices today!
