What Do You Hear Outside
Psalm 96:11-13 “Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it. Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them; let all the trees of the forest sing for joy. Let all creation rejoice before the Lord, for He comes, He comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in His faithfulness."
Have you ever sat by the ocean when no one is around? Or sat by a river? How about near an open field? Or in the middle of a forest? How about in the middle of the desert?
Well, I have done each of these. I've sat quietly and just listened. It is absolutely mind blowing to hear 'creation' praising God! In a forest, not only do you hear distant sounds, but when the wind is gently blowing, the leaves of the trees sing songs! So many different sounds come from the branches and leaves. There is even a time that I heard 'water' when there was NO water around for miles and miles. It was the most soothing sound ever! Or first thing in the morning, stepping outside, feeling the coolness on your skin, perhaps a slight bit of dew in the air. Breathing in the quiet. I hear the sounds of the leaves waking up. The branches in the trees bending as they stretch their limbs towards the rising sun. Each sound is heightened by the quiet all around. Even the smells in the air are fresh and new. The sun is just warming things up. Birds are waking and emerging from their nests. To stop and listen to the wings of a butterfly....the wings of a hummingbird....peaceful, gentle, calming. All singing such wonderful praises to God for another new, fresh day!
Even in hard, stormy weather, I hear 'creation' praising God. (Oh!!! Like in the movie August Rush!! The boy hears music in the middle of chaos!) Today, when you have a chance, step outside, take a deep breath, close your eyes.... and listen. Doesn't matter if you are out in the middle of nowhere, or deep in the heart of a city - just "listen". Listen to God whisper to you. Listen to how He will share creation praising Him. It may be in quietness, or it may be in the middle of noise. However it is, enjoy it! Then praise God for it!
