How To Be Wise
Proverbs 23:12 "Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge."
Well, this jumped out to me as part of my journey through life, and directly towards my journey in my weight loss adventure. Since my surgery, well - actually before my surgery, this verse urged me on almost daily. In order to make an informed decision to having surgery, I first had to be informed! The only way to do that, was to start asking questions. Then watching others that I learned had surgery before me. Asking them TONS of questions... I researched online through various resources about the many different types of surgeries out there now. The pros and cons. Then, when the time came, I STILL had more to learn! Actually, if we are honest with ourselves, we learn something new every day!
Gosh, this verse has helped me in SO many different situations in my life! Financially - learning how to keep record and get out of debt through FPU (financial peace university). Getting clean and sober through AA/NA and Celebrate Recovery. Learning how to stand up for myself with assertiveness (not aggression) through Monday Night Solutions. Learning the difference between men and women in Love And Respect as well as Laugh Your Way To A Better Marriage. In each one of these situations, it was my HEART that first needed to be in the right place. The place to WANT to change or learn something. Then it made it easier for my "ears" to actually LISTEN to what was being taught or said. I believe God has given people gifts and talents, with great wisdom, to 'teach' us that need to change or learn something. It is our job, to WANT to learn or change. I mean, you know the definition of insanity right?!?! "Do the same thing over and over, yet expecting different results." That WILL make you crazy and insane!
Ok, so where to start? How to start? First and foremost by getting on your knees (literally, if you can) and cry out to your Heavenly Father. Ask Him to create in you a desire and want to change completely and fully. Cry out for restoration, change, desires, understanding, wisdom, knowledge.... Then as things pop in your head of your actions and behaviors, confess those things to Him. Ask Him "will You forgive me?" and oh my goodness!!!! The flood of compassion, relief, release, grace, mercy.... all feelings of His answer "yes My child, I forgive you" will flood you and wash over you making you clean, fresh and new!! Then, the next step is to learn, research, read, get around others that are successful. Ask Him, He will direct you as to where to go or who to turn to. Then do it! He may guide you away from people and or places that you go on a regular basis. That's ok! It might not be forever. However, if He guides you and directs you in a way that is uncomfortable, you need to KNOW and BELIEVE that He will be right there with you!! You will NOT be alone in your journey! Plus, I am praying for you! I believe with all of my heart, that He provides a way of escape for each and every one of us, in whatever it is we need to be freed from! So, understand this: God is not a God of chaos, but of order. He will NOT lead you down a path of destruction, but a path of freedom. He will NOT cause you to harm someone else or yourself. Those negative things are from the enemy! Keep seeking His truth, His ways, His guidance.... and you WILL find freedom from your struggles. You WILL find knowledge, wisdom, truth and have abilities too! PLUS - BONUS - you will learn something and be a part of something bigger!! Blessings to you today! I'm praying you apply your heart and ears to learning more about Jesus which leads to learning more about yourself. Have a GREAT day!!
