How To Find Rest For Your Soul
Psalm 116:1, 5, 7, 12
Vs 1: “I love the Lord, for He heard my voice; He heard my cry for mercy."
Vs 5: "The Lord is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion."
Vs 7: "Return to your rest, my soul, for the Lord has been good to you.”
Vs 12: “What shall I return to the Lord for all His goodness to me?"
I cannot help but have the thought and memory of my MANY cries to the Lord over my weight. Like verse 1. The inability of me having "will-power" to keep up healthy habits and choices on the tons of different 'diets' I tried. How many times I BEGGED Him for His guidance and direction! Then verse 5, brought to my mind, just how FULL of compassion He is to me! How He guided and directed me to researching surgery for weight loss. So that, when I was turned down and denied here in California by my insurance, He provided a way through Mexico. I had already been researching Mexico, so I just became a bit more diligent. It all fit into His perfect plan and timing!
As these verses jumped out at me, verse 7 had a beautiful picture of the most amazing place! Also with incredible feelings! Right now, I want you to remember or imagine a place where you feel totally calm, peaceful, free, relaxed, joyful, and safe. When you fully and completely trust God. What ever it looks and feels like to you. In the mountains, by the beach, next to a cactus garden .... notice/feel on your face and skin what you need to feel calm and good. A cool breeze? The warm sun? A light drizzle? Now - THIS is where God is!! For you!! He is with you HERE! Verse 7 says to 'return to your rest' - the spot, place, emotions where you are with the Lord! His word gives us many promises as well as commands. This is one of them.
Ok, today, on a break - get by yourself for a few minutes 5, 10, 15 whatever - and 'go to this place with the Lord'. Rest in Him. Breathe. Be still. Enjoy. THIS is how you answer verse 12 - by getting away and resting in and with Him, praising Him, thanking Him, crying out to Him - being at peace with Him... we 'return to the Lord' "us/ourselves"! Our heart, our time, our just being ourself with Him - that is what He wants. For us to have a relationship with Him. Not hindered by the things of this world. We give Him our heart and soul, joy, peace, passions - we "return" them to Him, and He then blesses us beyond understanding. I'd say that is a very good thing! Have a GREAT day! Be blessed. I'm praying for you.
