Wanna Know A Secret
1 Corinthians 2:9-10 "That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, 'No eye has seen, no ear has hear, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love Him.' But it was to us that God revealed these things by His Spirit. For His Spirit searches out everything and shows us God's deep secrets."
I remember before I accepted the free gift from God of salvation - when I would read the bible or go to church and hear a sermon.... I didn't understand it at all!! Not one bit! Sure, some of it sounded like the old quotes my Grama used to say. I have even seen some of the old sayings in pictures hanging on her walls. However, none of it made any sense to me! A lot of what I would hear, seemed SO far-fetched and unimaginable, like a really creative fiction novel.
Well, all of that changed, when I actually said yes, and received the free gift from God! When I actually understood that Jesus is God in the flesh, sent here for my future. He was treated and charged as a criminal and punished WAY beyond the crimes He was accused of. (which is because, it had to be for each and EVERY sin that had been committed and will ever be committed) Then He died on the cross, was buried, and on the 3rd day, He rose from the grave! He walked among the living, ate with them, lived with them. Then He just rose up to heaven to await for me/us, sitting at the right hand of God. Believing THIS is what completely changed what I understood when I or anyone else read out of the Bible!!
All of the mumble-jumble things, became clear. All of those "secret/hidden" messages and or meanings - became clear. NOW, I understand the meaning of "the living, breathing word of God" - the Bible is not just words on pages in a book, but they live, move, breathe my very life!! Each day, when I read something, it is like going to my Father and climbing up on His lap and having a conversation about the day. Depending on the day, what is going on and such - the same thing I read last month, or several years ago - ends up having NEW meaning! New understanding! It seems to be like a plant, it grows up higher, and the roots grow deeper each and every time I read in the Bible.
Sure, at first, it was like I was a baby, and kept trying to grab my parents hand and force feed me a bite that was NOT good for me to have! It was too big, or too meaty LOL But over time, I learned to "chew" things better. Over time, Gods Holy Spirit would increase my appetite and fill me up with wisdom and knowledge and understanding. It didn't happen over night, not at all!! Has it stopped? Nope! Every time we go to church, hear a follower of Jesus speak, or even in songs and music - I seem to learn something new. It is like my marriage: I still learn something new about my husband even after 11 years of marriage! Pretty neat!
Today, I encourage you to just pick up the bible and read something. Start in Proverbs. Today is the 2nd of February - so read Proverbs 2. Ask God to open your eyes and reveal what He wants you to see/know today. As soon as 'something' jumps out at you, STOP. Read it again, and then ask God to open your heart, mind and soul to what this means to and for you today. You know what? He WILL reveal something to you - He always does! We just have to be open and listen ;-)
