Reach Out And Touch Him
Mark 5:34 And He said to her, "Daughter, your faith had made you well. Go in peace. Your suffering is over."
This is an amazing passage in scripture (Mark 5:25-34), where a woman who had been suffering with a bleeding problem ans suffering as well as at the hands of doctors, went to where Jesus was in a big crowd. Her faith was so strong in Him and His healing power, that she believed she would be healed even if she only touched his clothing! WOW!! That is BIG faith! What struck me was that when Jesus realized His healing power 'went out of Him' He looked around for the one who touched Him. (ok, another thing just popped in my head over this lol) Oh! I'll get back to this part of Him 'looking for her'. What struck me, was that as soon as she realized "He KNEW" she was embarrassed and afraid. What jumped out at me in this, was that she must have felt like she "stole" something. Which, she sort of did. She didn't ask for His healing or blessing, but touched His clothing and "took" it.
How do we react when someone 'catches' us in the middle of doing something we don't have permission to do? We react just like she did "frightened, trembling, fall to our knees and spill the beans!" OR when we have stolen something and the Holy Spirit convicts us of our wrong doing, and we realize that we need to go to Jesus of course, but maybe even to the one we 'took' something from. This is how I feel she came to Jesus. Even though she was a woman and had been suffering with this for a long time, she was coming to Him like a child. Both in faith and in actions. Her remorse was deep! However, because, she realized that something was different, that she indeed had a "change" going on inside, I can imagine she was a bit excited too. Verse 29 says it: "Immediately the bleeding stopped, and she could feel in her body that she had been healed of her terrible condition." Do you see that? "Immediately" she knew there was a change in her body. OK, so here's the two things that double jumped out in the middle of this: Jesus KNEW His healing power had been tapped in to and that "she" was the one healed. He KNEW it was her, and was "searching for her" with His eyes. He WANTED to look her straight in the eyes and tell her how beloved she was. How special she was. How her faith had made her well. That He called her "Daughter" is SO BIG in my book of feelings! He was tender and gentle. He searched for HER, to give her peace of mind of her terrible feelings of what she had 'taken' without His permission.
God is SO amazing!! His love is SO great for us, that when we step out in faith, and trust Him for things, He is like a proud Father and comes searching for us to lift us high on His shoulders with praise and adoration filled with encouragement!! WOW! The absolute freedom this woman must have felt! The exhilaration at the blessing! THIS is how I felt (and still feel) when the Lord walked me through getting weight loss surgery! The utter freedom at the release of years and years of suffering inside (and out) from my food addictions and weight - immeasurable!
Today, I want you to bring what it is you are suffering the most with to Jesus. Whatever it is, big or small. Get in a place where you can close your eyes and imagine yourself reaching out and touching His clothing as He walks by. Maybe you are in a quiet place, or in a crowd like this woman was - doesn't matter, your faith and trust in Him is what matters. Now, reach out with your very outstretched hand, and touch His clothing as He passes by. Feel the electricity and energy of His power go from Him to you! Feeling every ounce of your body being penetrate by this warming flow going through each and every vein, muscle, cell in your body! He will NOT condemn you for your faith in believing in this power from Him to you - He will search for you, hold your face, call you Daughter (or Son) and tell you that your faith is healing you. "Daughter (Son), your faith has made you well. Go in peace. Your suffering is over."
