Who Are You Blaming

Proverbs 19:3

(NLT) People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and then are angry at the Lord.

(MSG) People ruin their lives by their own stupidity, so why does God always get blamed?

Boy, I am reminded that I too have done this very thing in my choices, ouch! Why do we do this? First of all, because we are selfish. Second it is much easier to blame someone else than take accountability or responsibility for our choices.

How do we fix this, or stop it? Easy – go to God and ‘fess-up’ to what we did and the choices we made! If you can stop yourself BEFORE making choices and ask God what or if you should be doing it – then LISTEN to His answer – you and I could save ourselves a LOT of “ruin”!

You know that little voice in your head and or heart that nudges you right before you do something? That is the Holy Spirit. God is personally trying to get your attention and communicate with you about what you should or should not be doing. You know that empty pit feeling you get deep inside your stomach? Or the hollow feeling right in the middle of your chest? Those are the Holy Spirit too.

So, what if you have been ignoring these ways of communication and stuffing down those feelings? Are you doomed to really mess things up? NO! You CAN turn around at any time, in any moment – right now even. What do you do? Get down on your knees (if you can) or lay flat on the floor (or bed) as if you are bending down at the feet of God Himself. Then tell Him ‘all about it’ – your choices, actions, beliefs, worries, concerns…. Basically, you bring ALL of your junk to Him and confess or fess-up to what you have been doing and the choices you have been making. Let it all out. You might cry. You might have a nervous laugh. You might very well feel completely numb. What matters most, is that you are obedient in going to Him with EVERYTHING. Then guess what? There is one more step that we need to do: ASK Him if He will forgive us for these things.

Now, breathe. Listen. Be still. You WILL hear His voice talk to you. Deep in your heart, soul and mind. He WILL say, “Child, I have been waiting so long to hear these things from you. I love you more than anything. YES, I forgive you.” Depending on where you are, you may feel a flood of emotions come over you, or you may feel like you are getting the best BIG hug ever! The love, grace, mercy, compassion and joy He has and pours out on us when we bring things like this to Him – is unimaginable!

Yes, it is easy to blame others and even more-so to blame God when ruin comes our way. However, the truth is – we need to look in the mirror and see if WE are the ones that have brought this on ourselves. Have we been foolish and stupid? If so, then we need to take ownership of our choices, ask God for help, and then thank Him and praise Him for allowing us to see the truth. I’m praying you are safe and well today and that you will be blessed beyond measure!
