Little White Book
Psalm 6:1-4 "O Lord, don’t rebuke me in Your anger or
discipline me in Your rage. 2 Have
compassion on me, Lord, for I am weak.
Heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony.
3 I am sick at heart. How long, O Lord, until You restore me?"
Interesting
verses here. How many of us have cried out this prayer to God? Tons I am sure!
What struck me, was someone, anyone, caught up in a sin. The cry of wanting to
be freed from the stronghold that the sin has over us, causes us to cry out “how
long, O Lord, until You rescue me?” Yet, we also plead our case in the first
verses – even though we deserve the punishment! LOL Like a child that has made
an unwise choice, knows it, and sees the parent ‘sees’ them doing it – and the
trouble that is about to come. Almost like the child about to be disciplined
with a spanking: they cry and plead and try and hold their hands over their bottom.
All the while, not realizing the problem with the sin we keep doing is that WE
are weak!! We ALL are weak to something. We are human. We are here on earth,
suffering in a type of ‘hell’ because our “home” in heaven awaits us. We WILL
suffer here all the way to our bones, yet according to other scriptures, we
will not be destroyed. Yes, it may feel like it at times. However, we DO have
the promises of God to stand on!
I try
to write promises and helps that I come across when reading, so I can reference
back to them. A friend of mine, made a little book, that she made each page a
different “topic” for things that would be helpful when a time comes that she
needs a quick grab of God in scripture. So, one page is called Insecure, then
any verse she comes across that gives her hope or promises of her ‘security’ in
God – she writes the verse ‘address’ on that page, on that list. However, for me, I think I will write out the verse, because sometimes I just need the (!! Fix, and can't necessarily 'look up' the verse to read it. I think I am
going to start one of these. Why? Because it is personal. It is the verses that
jump out at me FOR me, that I can go back to when needed. Hmmm but it needs to
be something I can carry with me…. OH!! Maybe a place in my phone under my
Notes – I can make a main ‘file’ and put the different headings under it!! LOL,
but I do like paper – so I think I’ll use one of my bullet journal log books
for this. That way I can make an index in the front ;-) I think I’ll call it
something like My Emergency Contact Info, OR Answers To Help, OR Tea Time With
Jesus Helps… I don’t know if I will title it anything, but I do want to start
it, right now.
I
hope today, I can encourage you to spend time in God’s word getting to know
Him. Search out and find the verses that will be helpful to you today. Yes, you
can even search out verses that are positive, encouraging, and uplifting
praises to God! Those are like the prayers I pray back to God, thanking Him for
that moment. Remember, we are His children and He knows us and out habits VERY
well. He is not totally surprised at our choices. He understands when we ‘hold
our hands over our bottoms’ and beg Him to not be hard on us. Do you see it?!?!
We are on the right path in that moment – why? Because we actually recognize
it! We actually know we should be disciplined for it, yet we cry out asking for
mercy. It is those times, when I think we actually learn the most, and it
sticks with us more.
However
you can keep track of verses that are “for you” and can be helpful in times of
need – FIND a way to track them and have them with you. Kind of like a "little black book" - but only this book is life, and light, so it should be WHITE! Yeah, sure, if we all
could memorize them, that is the BEST way – but my brain just can’t seem to
hold all of the data and me recall it when I need it LOL I am praying for you today. That you can
start this amazing journey with Jesus and that you can and will draw strength from
His word. Be well, be safe, and be blessed!
