You Will NEVER Be Forgotten

Isaiah 49:15-16a “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you! ¹⁶ See, I have engraved you on the palms of My hands;”

Well now, I have heard this many times, but today, it hit just a bit different. Due to the MEF (mind’s eye flash) that happened as I got to the last part.

You see, I DO know of a few people, whose mother DID ‘forget’ about them. Or it at least appears that way to them. As a Mom, even if I had given into my selfishness and had abandoned my children, I am pretty sure, I would still “think” of them a LOT! Perhaps covered in guilt and shame, but every time I would see a child, I’m pretty sure my heart would be nudged. As I believe the mothers of people whose moms left the family for one reason or another think of them as well.

Anyway – that is where my heart was as Jesus and I were reading this. Then as I got to the last part “I will not forget you! See, I have engraved you on the palms of My hands” He showed me that when He died on the cross, it was for each and every one of us. When they were nailing Him to the cross, EVERY pound and strike of the hammer to the nail, piercing His hands – those were like the engraving tools used to carve every one of our names IN His hands!! What?!?! I mean, WHAT?!?! Now that is a different way to look at His crucifixion!

As I look at my hand, and examine the palm, I see thousands of lines, bends, folds and these little tine lines, like our thumb print, but all over my hand. I know that each and every one of us, have a special and unique set of “prints” just for us! Yet, at a subcutaneous level – all of those lines represent us in God’s hands! I’m in awe!

Oh Friend – if you could only see and realize, that God loves you SO much!! So much so, that He has YOU, your name, written in the palm of His hand. So, not only is He by your side, in the middle of stuff with you, and holding you in His arms – He has YOU individually and personally written in the palm of His hand! No matter how down, low, depressed, fearful, ashamed, guilty, worrisome… you may be or get – all you need to do is LOOK at the palm of your own hand, and KNOW that God is looking at you in the palm of His hand! Accepting, loving, forgiving, ready and willing to have you just as you are! Pain, warts, dirtiness and all ;-) We are deeper than any tattoo could ever be – we are grafted, imprinted, embedded, pierced through – we are IN His hands! That is pretty stinkin’ awesome to me! A song just popped in my thoughts from Robin Hood by Brian Adams - and I feel that is God saying it to us! :-)
