Go Get 'Em God
We CAN Let God Do The Punishing
Psalm 56:7 (NLT) “Don’t let them get away
with their wickedness; in Your anger, O
God, bring them down.”
It is hard to give up control to someone else, I get it, I
do. However, the bible tells us over and over again, that the Lord is the One
that is our Avenger. He is the One on the throne that is King and rules justly.
God knows everyone inside and out, from before we are born until the day we
die, and then into eternity. He doesn’t want anyone to die separated from Him, He doesn’t! However, He
gives us all the “free will” to choose Jesus or reject Jesus. That simple.
Then, there are days and situations, that just seem to come
at us and we REALLY want to fight back! OR if you grew up like me, you were
told NOT to fight back, and to “love” everyone. Do unto others as you would
have them do to you… Well, that 'way' created in me a person that was a door-mat.
Not what God actually intended I don’t believe. Through my journey in life, I
have had MANY situations that I REALLY wish I could have taken matters into my
own hands. Yet, it’s a good thing I didn’t – because I would have been in a
much different place than I am now. Which is one of the reasons that I believe
the Lord wants us to call on Jesus and NOT take matters into our own hands.
“But Lisa Marie, you mean NEVER stand up for yourself?!?”
No, that is not what I am saying at all. It is the “vengeance” or the “punishment”
that we want to happen to/on someone – THAT is what is in the Lords hands. LOL
I find myself praying this prayer and many like it a LOT towards injustice that
I see happening. Yet, it can be towards those in our life that are closer and
more personal as well.
I have shared that my late-husband was not a very kind person.
Much of it was his upbringing, Vietnam, and his own personal demons. Yet, that
doesn’t excuse his actions, not one bit! Praying God’s words back to Him, is
one of the things that is a responsibility of ours. Not just all of the “fluff
stuff” either, but the hard stuff too! It is MUCH easier to pray this type of
prayer towards someone we don’t really know, and the things we see them doing.
Like with terrorists. Yet, God knows what is going on in our lives, right in
our own homes even. Sometimes, we are in the middle of a battle, that we cannot
see any justice or positive outcome – in that case, we are tempted to “take
things into our own hands” – which usually leads to a disastrous situation that
affects MANY lives. What to do instead? Pray this prayer, and any others you
come across that are just like this!
I keep coming back to the fact that King David was
considered “a man after God’s own heart” and HE prayed this prayer! Why can’t
we?!?! We CAN!! The very next verse, 8, tells us “You keep track of all my
sorrows. You have collected all my tears in Your bottle. You have recorded each
one in Your book.” You see, not only does God KNOW our hurts, sorrows, pains,
situations… but He is intimately involved in them! He is so close to us in
them, that He collects our tears AND SAVES them!! He keeps track of ALL things
in our life! He has a personal, private, accurate journal that He keeps on us,
and writes it ALL down.
WOW!! The MEF (mind’s eye flash) I just got, was like the
library in the movie Beauty and the Beast. HUGE place, yet beyond the boarders
of a room, it looks like a library with no end, no walls. Each and every person ever
alive as well as those who died before taking a breath, and those who have died
shortly after taking a breath – each one has a book! There are some that are
thicker than others, but each one is personal and descriptive. Each one looks
like a treasure, precious, loved, well looked at. At a moment’s notice, He can
pull up any book He wants in a second. Swoosh – here we are at my book! As I
see it open, the pages are tender, gentle, covered with love, grace, mercy! The
words are written with such grace and ease. The book seems to grow as the pages
turn. There are many little perfume type bottles in the pages, filled with sparkling
liquid. Some of the liquid is clear, and others have a cloud look to it. Some
bottles are small, with only a drop or two. Other bottles are much bigger and
filled to the brim. Page after page, as they turn, I can see, feel, and hear so
many emotions: laughter, joy, happiness, pain, heartache, sorrow… Like breath,
the pages are filled with details of each and every moment in my life. It would
seem the book would weigh a ton – yet it is light. Both in brightness and in
weight. The hands that are touching it, opening it, are the hands of God.
Gentle, loving, tender, firm, paying attention to even the tiniest detail.
Pretty amazing!!
As I look around, what is see is an eternity
of space filled with each and every person ever thought of! In a place that is
at the easiest reach of God’s hands. Then in my dimensions – gone, poof, only
to be looked and beheld by our Lord God, our Father in heaven. WOW!!
So, when you feel down, out, mistreated – don’t take things
into your own hands – pray, to your Father, “Don’t let them get away with
their wickedness; in Your anger, O God, bring them down.” He is the One that
will pour heaps of hot coals on their heads. He is the One that will bring the
hammer of justice down on them. We may not ever see it here in person, but He
WILL do what is just on our behalf!
Today, if you are going through something that you "stepped
in" and tried taking control of a situation, place, or person - in your own way and time… I will pray that you
can stop, step back, and ask God to be the One to take care of the justice
needed in the situation. He always has a way of exposing truth. Bringing
darkness to light. Trust. Pray. I’m praying for you!
