This Is How You Do It
Is it
possible to live in peace and harmony? Is it possible to live by goodness and
with dignity? This is how you do it:
1
Timothy 2:1-4 (NLT) 1 I urge you, first of all, to pray for all
people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for
them. 2 Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that
we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. 3
This is good and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants everyone to be
saved and to understand the truth.
Gosh!
It seems so simple, right?!?! Think about it… the easiest thing we could ever
do that benefits EVERYONE: pray for them! Yup, everyone. Those in your house,
in your neighborhood, at school, at work. Those that run the city, state,
country. Those in far-away places. The many people serving and defending our
country… the list goes on and on.
Ok – I can imagine what you are thinking, “But
Lisa Marie, that will take ALL day to do. And you want me to do it EVERY day?!?”
Well, yes. The bible clearly tells us over and over to pray for others. And NOT
just the people we know and love. We are also to pray for those we don’t like
so well. People we don’t agree with or get along with.
Here’s
the thing – when we start praying for the ones that seem to us that “don’t
deserve” prayer, we start seeing changes that we would never have seen before.
Now, we are not to pray for “our” way in things lol but, for what is best. God’s
best. God’s desire, His will and plan. When we do this, amazing things happen all
around us!!
The
very last two verses, gives us the reason for it all: 3 This is good
and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants everyone to be saved and to
understand the truth. – That’s the whole reason to pray for others, that they
are saved and understand truth. So, if and when you are not sure what to pray,
just pray these verses over them, for them, towards them. When you drive by places in your town. Riding
the public transportation. Walking in a store. Watching the news. Anytime you
come into contact with someone, even if not face to face… if all we shoot up to
heaven is, “Father, I ask that you save them and give them understanding of
Your truth. Thank You for what You are going to do in their life today.” That’s
it. Simple, right?!?! It will be a challenge, and it may seem overwhelming, but it IS doable. Easy? Not totally. Is it possible - yes indeed!
Today,
I am praying for you and ALL of the people you will see, hear, and be near
today. I pray that you are able to listen to the Holy Spirit when prompted to
pray for and thank God for a person that you ‘think’ of or see in person, or
just cross paths. Nothing better than praying for God to help someone, especially
when we don’t know all of the details, but we intercede on their behalf!! Living
in peace and harmony with goodness and dignity comes at a cost: the cost of
being willing to pray for ALL of those in authority in our world. It is that easy and that hard. 1 Timothy 2:1-4 (NLT) 1 I urge
you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on
their behalf, and give thanks for them. 2 Pray this way for kings
and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives
marked by godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and pleases God our
Savior, 4 who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the
truth.
