Don't Put It Off - Start Today
Proverbs 20:4, 5, 6 NLT
Verse 4: Those too lazy to plow in the right season will have no food at the harvest.
Verse 5: Though good advice lies deep within the heart, a person with understanding will draw it out. Verse 6: Many will say they are loyal friends, but who can find one who is truly reliable?
Oh goodness! This whole chapter is FULL of amazing instructions and advise!! However, these ones right here in the middle, struck me for different reasons.
Verse 4 actually struck me about 'working out' and getting fit and in shape. How many of us plan to do so at the start of the new year?!?! Then, just a short time later, we have fallen back to old habits, and are no longer doing what we need to do in order to get or stay in shape. Well, This verse struck me about summer vacation. How, I 'know' we are going in a few months. If I would start now, slow and steady, by time vacation came, I would be ready to be active and have fun! In the past, what has happened, is 1 month before it is time to leave, I freak out, and realize that I'm NOT in shape, and then I work like a crazy person (for a week or two) and then end up giving up! Geez!!
This verse, is the same thing. If we are too lazy to take care of ourselves, in health, food, and fitness - then when the 'season' comes that we want to be able to do things (or wear things), we will not have the stamina or abilities to enjoy the 'harvest' of that season. WOW! Ouch!!
Verse 5 is to me, a verse in communication. When we meet someone, or we are with others in a social setting, the BEST way to get to know others: ask questions! Draw out information. 9 times out of 10 when you do this, you not only learn things about the person, but you inevitably learn some good and amazing advise! It just takes a little "drawing it out" of them. :-)
Verse 6 this is just a simple reminder, that we ARE human! In our humanness, we WILL let others down at some day and point in our lives. ALSO, "others" WILL do the same towards us! It is a fact of life. However, just the other day, the Lord reminded me of Deuteronomy 3:18 "Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; He will neither fail you nor abandon you." I am SO thankful that even though I get hurt by people here on earth, in life - that I don't have to rely on "them" being 'reliable', because that is not who God made for us to rely on - we are to rely on Jesus, NOT people! We will NEVER go wrong trusting and relying on Him! He will never leave us or forsake us - in other words: He will ALWAYS be loyal and reliable! That, you can count on, hold on, and trust in - ALWAYS!!
I'm praying for you and your day. May you start to take care of yourself now, so that you are ready for the 'seasons' ahead. I pray, that you take the time to 'draw out' information from others. Then, I am always praying that you believe in and trust these promises from God, that Jesus is the One to put our full trust in. Have a GREAT day! :-)
