Where Do You Turn In A Storm?
Proverbs 18:10 - "The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to Him and are safe."
Another amazing MEF (minds eye flash) on this verse.
A sudden storm with wind, rain, and darkness is all about me, and then right ahead of me, almost with a spot light on it, is this HUGE castle type building, that has the name of God, in all sorts of situations, all over it! Yahweh, Prince of Peace, Immanuel, I Am, Elohim, Savior, Good Shepherd.... all over the fortress are these names! It's beautiful, and beckons me to run to it. As I run in, and enter the door, the feeling of safety, security, relief, rest, warmth all flood me and cover me like the best fuzzy blanket ever!
Then a 'flash' of a different 'storm' came to mind. One that goes on inside of a person. Emotional, mental, and no-one seeing it. The MEF was the same sort of: in the darkened chaos of tormenting words, pokes, and chill to my bone, all whirling around me like a tornado! Again the gate was opened to welcome me in. And the relief of the turmoil going on inside, was soothed away like a warm cup of coco. Then, another MEF. This time of abuse. Verbal, physical, mental and the sucker-punch feeling in my tummy, along with the fiery darts, long cutting knives all coming at me at full force, swinging in the air like each one is it's own Ninja hitting me with such force I'm almost knocked down. Again, the fortress ahead was inviting & welcoming. The instant I step thru the entrance, it is a feeling of floating on a cloud yet bathed in a warm light, better than any bubble bath ever! Each one of these 'flashes' after entering, and being held in His care - give me a feeling of strength and courage with safety and endurance. All fear gone.
Our God is a God of mercy, grace, and forgiveness. He doesn't want ANY of us to suffer storms, especially alone! Yes, we ALL have crazy days, where it seems like one thing after another is coming at us. And we ALL have moments where we just need to run and hide! However, the ONLY place to run and hide and actually GET peace, comfort, and protection is in the arms of Jesus in the Lords Tower of the Holy Spirit! Sometimes, it takes us being brave and strong just to crawl to Him. I believe with all my heart, that He is RIGHT there next to us in those moments, just waiting for us to reach up our hand and ask for His. Isaiah 41 verses 10 and 13 tell us, we just need to reach up with our hand, and He WILL hold us, carry us, protect and provide for us!!
Verse 10: "Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand."
Verse 13: "For I hold you by your right hand— I, the Lord your God. And I say to you, ‘Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you."
I cling to these verses any time I am feeling like I am in ANY of the storms I saw in the MEF above. You can too! I am praying for you and your day today. Don't try and do it all on your own. If you want the true peace, rest, and comfort.... only He can give it! Reach up. Ask. RUN in to His fortress! <3
