Do You Make Your Kids Proud

Proverbs‬ ‭17:6 "Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged; parents are the pride of their children."

Well, I have read this SO many times, I cannot even count! Today, however, the LAST part of this verse stuck out to me: "parents are the pride of their children." Ouch!! Are you proud to say your parents are your parents?!?! LOL I know as a teen, I was not - but as an adult, YES! As a teen, I remember feeling as if they had NO clue to me, my life, and all that was going on. Now, as an adult - I see that they really did have 'life experiences' and perhaps they did know a thing or two!

What hit me today too, was that I need to keep in mind, that "I" am the one, to usher in our children, in to that place of feeling pride in me/us as parents. I'm sad to say, I have failed in this area far more than I have succeeded, but I'm not dead yet, and there is always today to make changes!

Today, you may not be able to do, say, or act in a way to change your whole past - but you CAN start today, with the Lords help, and make some small changes that are going to grow into bigger and better changes, that WILL last a life time! For me - it is getting rid of "stuff"! So that the things we do have, can all have their own place, and be put in it. De-cluttering our home, will free me up to have the 'time' I need for our kids. I think one of the ways that helps me too, is starting off the day with Jesus. Not getting caught up in social media, running errands, or even just being lazy - but getting up, reading His words, and drawing closer to Him in conversations through prayer and journaling. For you, it may look totally different. For you, it may be being consistent with what you say and do towards your kids. Or perhaps, it is actually reaching out to them, and NOT waiting for them to reach out to you. The tons of 'behind the scenes' things we do, that they don't even know or realize.

Following the SOAP method of reading today:
S (scripture): Proverbs 17:6 Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged; parents are the pride of their children.
O (observation): Yes, grandparents have a crowning reward with grandchildren - but it is "parents" that are to be the pride OF their children!! Wow!! Backwards from what we all normally do!!
A (application): For me personally, I am going to make it a point to reach out to our children and grandchildren, to see how I can be praying for them. We live SO far from all of them, and on my knees, is the best place I can be for them right now.
P (prayer): Hello Daddy, I come to You in the name of Jesus, and ask that You give me the strength, courage, and ability to be the parent for our children, that they will be proud of! Not in a bragging boastful way, but with a sincere heart filled with joy. May I be able to bring peace and comfort when it is needed for each one of them. Father, thank You for showing me these words today, and allowing the Holy Spirit to nudge my heart to take actions FOR our kids, and not for myself. I ask you Papa, to allow me to "see" what You would have me to, individually, personally for each one of our kids. Thank You for how You are going to make this happen! I look forward to this new chapter in my life! I pray all of this in the amazing, wonderful and powerful name of Jesus, amen.

It just hit me, that there are a LOT of people that do NOT have children of their own, for one reason or another. Perhaps, they have 'furry kids' or are an amazing Aunt or Uncle. This verse is still valid. You CAN still make a difference in someone's life! Start with someone in your family. Or a neighbor. Or even as a Big Brother / Big Sister. There ARE tons of kids, or young adults, that "need" a parent figure in their life! You can be that person for someone, just pray about it, ask God to provide the 'one' for you! He will - I know it!! It may even be in your work place. You never know... :-)
