How To Avoid Meaningless Conversations
1 Timothy 1:4-5 “Don’t let them waste their time in endless discussion of myths and spiritual pedigrees. These things only lead to meaningless speculations, which don’t help people live a life of faith in God. The purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith."
Have you ever had a conversation with someone that feels like 'it's SO off track' or that leads to a debate of things that just 'don't feel right'? LISTEN to that Red Flag from the Holy Spirit! Excuse yourself, and walk away! Why? Because the enemy uses these crazy opinions & topics to dance around in your head and thoughts for days, weeks, even months ahead. Being a part of a conversation that gets so derailed from truth, is NOT good for anyone! If you cannot bring it back to truth, giving God glory - then leave.
For me, when people start telling colorful, inappropriate jokes, if I can't get a word in edgewise, I either 'say' or 'motion' I'm headed to/for something. Restroom, drink of water, ANYTHING that removes me from there! Another topic that seems to pop up, is spiritual things. However, like this passage says, when it starts going off track, and the opinions start pulling people 'how to live' and it's NOT following God... again, find a way to be excused, and leave. You can only control you, your actions, your behavior - you cannot control them. But you also don't have to stay and subject yourself to things that will fog up your heart and your conscience or muddle up your faith! Stay away from paranormal, psychic, mystical people and conversations!! The purpose of our conversation should be like Paul's above: "that all believers would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith." Today, think before you speak. Both to others and to yourself in your head. Are you filling them or yourself with love which increases your faith in Jesus? Confess anything that has pulled you away from Him, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you back - then FOLLOW Him! Have a blessed day & week!
