Who's Voice Are You Following
Psalm 143:10 “Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God; may Your good Spirit lead me on level ground."
Straight up truth right there! Easy and to the point. Question tho: how will we be able to be taught these things? Can we learn His will by just praying? How about just listening to music, Praise and Worship music that is? By talking with other Christians? By reading a 'how to' book? How can we KNOW it's HIS Spirit leading us? By any of these ways?
Well, sure these things will enhance our awareness and our connection with Him, but the ONLY way to deepen our relationship with Him is by hearing His voice as we read His words in Scripture.
MEF (minds eye flash): a new born baby, comes out hearing all sorts of sounds and voices! It has NO idea who mommy and daddy are! It doesn't take long before it realizes a couple of voices are consistent in meeting its needs. As the child grows, starts interacting with others, who's voice can they always pick out? Their parent!! Now, the child is in sports, and in the crowd of cheering, who's voice do they hear the loudest? Yup, their parents! We are "designed" to hear His voice! But we need to feed on it daily, in order to REALLY know it!
2nd MEF: a child that was adopted. Their 'natural' parents are looking and searching for them, trying everything they know to "find" their child. Years go by. Finally a day comes, and they are told the exact location of their child. The child is now a toddler, and playing at a park. The adoptive parents have actually kept the name that the birth-mother gave them at birth. So, the birth-mom reaches the playground, and sees a child about the right age. In her heart, she KNOWS which child is hers! Plus, the family resemblance is totally obvious! So, as she slowly reaches the edge of the playground, she calls out the child's name. Nothing. Not even a flinch! She tries it again, a little bit louder. Still NOTHING! The child is so engrossed in play, that the laughter and fun override the "voice" of the birth-mother. Birth-mother, now exchanges glances with adoptive-mother, and adoptive-mother quietly, yet firmly, says the child's name. INSTANTLY the child turns to see what Mommy is saying. Why? Because the child KNOWS the voice! THIS is exactly how we are with our Lord God, our heavenly Father! We ONLY can hear, know, and follow the voice of Jesus if we are IN a relationship with Him, so that we KNOW His voice! Then and only then, when He "talks" to us through the Holy Spirit, will we KNOW it is His voice guiding and directing us.
Today, go sit on Daddy's lap, curl up with a blankie and a go-to beverage, then let Him talk to you through His scripture! Psalm 23 is a good spot. Or John. Even Acts or Hebrews. Want to know about a women's perspective - try Ruth or Esther. However much your time allows: 1 chapter or the whole book. Doesn't matter! Just start somewhere. If your phone will 'read' to you, try that. Just listen to Him and His love will touch your heart, ears, mind and soul! Have a super awesome blessed day!
