What Are You Hungry For

Proverbs 10:3 “The Lord will not let the godly go hungry, but He refuses to satisfy the craving of the wicked.

Hungry. Hungry in what? Well, what struck me today was ALL types of hunger! Physical, emotional, mental, things… I think we all understand the physical need for food, and that type of hunger. And yet, sometimes we still have fears about what will be our next meal, or where will it come from, how much will be available…

First of all, we as Americans eat WAY too much! For most of us, the portions they give us at restaurants could actually feed a family of 3-4. We have taken “their” portions and brought them home when we cook and serve our family. God designed our bodies to need and use a certain amount of food. Not more, not less. He gave us our hands to be able to know what “our” body needs. Your hands are always with you, and they are amazing at being just the right guide for our bodies and food! For most people (if you haven’t had bariatric surgery) the palm of your hand should be the amount of protein you have. The whole length of your hand, should be the veggies. Bend the top of your hand down so that your fingers touch the ‘top’ of the palm of your hand – that bent over part is your amount of carbs your body needs. Crazy, right?!?! But true. You eat that 4-5 times a day – you will be a lean machine able to do most anything you can imagine.

What popped in my head too is that sometimes we ‘crave/hunger’ for things as well. A nice house, nice car, fun toys… God created us. He knows us inside and out. Better than we know ourselves even. He understands our desires, wants and dreams. He also knows what our future holds. He is ready and willing to bless us – however, sometimes, the “things” we crave, really are not the best thing for us, right now any way. That doesn’t mean we should stop wanting the things we think we want, or to stop praying for them. It just means not right now.

The last part that hit me, was about the cravings of the wicked. I have known a few of these people in my life over the years. It is true!! No matter what they do, what they get, how much they destroy in the process – they always want more! They never seem to be satisfied. At all! Sad. Well, it was, until I realized that God is the one behind it. Their lack of satisfaction is something the Lord is allowing them to go through, in hopes that they will seek and find the One true fulfillment for them in life – Jesus! They will crave and crave all sorts of things. Until they actually crave Jesus, they will feel the empty pit of despair, want and desire. Like chasing shadows.

Yes, we are to pray without ceasing. That is for us and our needs, as well as the needs of others. Today, I pray that you see some of the ways the Lord is blessing you and satisfying you and your cravings. I challenge you to go through the ABC’s and look around you – name off things that start with each letter that you are “satisfied” with (blessed with). It doesn’t matter if your ‘portion’ right now is smaller than others’ portions – yours is designed and brought to you just as He designed our hands for us and our food needs. He DOES give us our daily needs. Not necessarily our ‘wants’ but for sure our ‘needs’. Yes, it is totally ok and natural to pray for our wants as well – just be ready for some of those things to change due to how your heart changes over time ;-) Hold out your hands, and let the Lord fill them up. Then remember, all that ‘spills over’ is for you to share with others. I pray you are surrounded by blessings today. Be well, be safe, and be blessed!
