Where Is Your Heaven
Psalm 73:1-5 (MSG) “No doubt about it! God is good—good
to good people, good to the good-hearted. But I nearly missed it,
missed seeing His goodness.
I was looking the other way,
looking up to the people
at the top,
envying the wicked who have it
made, who have nothing to worry about, not a care in the whole wide world.”
ALL
of Psalm 73 is one we ALL can relate to!! If ever you have looked at and or wished for the “life”
of someone who seems to be “getting/having it all” even though they got it
through wrong or evil ways – well, then this Psalm is for you! I know I have
fallen for wishing for the easy way or the 'life' others seem to be living. I have also questioned why God allows “them”
to prosper when I work my tail off to serve Him and do right. An old saying: “They
seem to fall in a pile of poop and come out smelling like a rose” sure seems to
fit for those who have wrong intentions and hearts towards God, the law, rules,
other people…. and yet still prosper.
Well,
many years ago, my pastor did a sermon on why bad people seem to prosper and
good people seems to get the short end of the stick. How we ALL have had
doubts, questions, and wondered “why God is allowing this”.
I
will never forget his response: "Here on earth, for people that are not saved (believers, Christians) – this is the only heaven they will ever experience. For those of us who are
saved (believers, Christians) – earth is the only hell we will ever experience."
Kind
of hits right in the gut, right?!?! I mean, our time here on earth is but a
minute in the realm of eternity. Even in our sufferings, no matter how long we
seem to be in a deep dark pit or tunnel – God IS there, with us, walking or
even carrying us! Oh the glory and wonderful magnificence we will be sharing
with Him on the other side one day!!!
Today,
if you are suffering or going through a tough patch in life – this is a season
that will pass. If you have been watching and wishing for the ‘life’ of someone
who has evil intention at their root. If you have actually fallen prey to and
have dabbled in doing things that would actually be considered ‘evil’ in God’s eyes. If you are struggling with doubt, fear, and now possible shame – there is
hope!! The answer is not as far away as you might think. Although, it WILL take
a bit of bravery. All that needs to be done, is like the psalmist did here in
Psalm 73 – go to God and spill it all out. Verses 16-17 say it perfectly: “Still, when I tried to
figure it out, all I got was a splitting headache . . .
Until I entered the sanctuary
of God. Then
I saw the whole picture.” We need to enter into His sanctuary.
Yes, that could mean an actual church where they teach and preach the Word of
God right from the bible. It could also mean, to be with a counselor or therapist
who is a believer, and who can guide you to Gods truth and wisdom. It could
mean, right now, to be on your knees in your room crying out to God,
confessing, and asking for His Holy Spirit to guide and direct.
