Can You Hear A Whisper In A Storm


What if we could have super-human hearing? What if we could actually hear like the Bionic Woman could back in the 70's?

1 Kings 19:9b, 11-12 (GNT)
Verse 9b – Suddenly the Lord spoke to him, “Elijah, what are you doing here?”
Verse 11 – “Go out and stand before Me on top of the mountain,” the Lord said to him. Then the Lord passed by and sent a furious wind that split the hills and shattered the rocks – but the Lord was not in the wind. The wind stopped blowing, and then there was an earthquake – but the Lord was not in the earthquake.
Verse 12 – After the earthquake there was a fire – but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was a soft whisper of a voice.

After the Lord asked Elijah a question, knowing what and why he was there, knowing in advance what Elijah was going to say even – the Lord called him to do something so that he could show His great and mighty power. Not to destroy Elijah, but to show him living THROUGH it! The Lord “passed by” Elijah, and had all sorts of BIG, hard, scary things happen while he was actually out in it – exposed! But God was NOT in all of those things. It was in a “whisper” – THAT is where God is!

The lesson for us is that God is not in the crazy, chaotic uncontrolled things around us, but He is in the calm, still, small voice. He gives us directions in our inner being, quietly. Yes, sometimes in the very middle of a storm.

We, like Elijah, need to be willing to STOP, slow down, be still and be quiet – and LISTEN. In our fast paced world of today, I get it – it is hard! However, it is actually something that refreshes us, restores us – heart and soul – to the things of God. The storms will rage on and on, and we will get beat up, but the “umbrella of God” is found as we stop and listen. I know, I know – it is next to impossible to hear something quiet in the middle of loudness – but it is in that moment, that you stop, you WILL hear Him and His guidance and direction that He wants you to go. You WILL have the bionic hearing like Lindsey Wagner did in the Bionic Woman of the 70’s. Only, it is through the Holy Spirit that you will have this gift.

I’m praying that today, you will get away to your mountain top, and allow the crazy stuff to go by you – then listen for Gods voice in the stillness of your heart. He wants only the best for you! He has a plan for you! Allow Him to share it with you! Be well, be safe, and be blessed!!

1 Timothy‬ ‭6:17-19 “Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life."      What an amazing passage!! How To Fill Your Home With Treasures

Proverbs‬ ‭24:3-4‬ ‭NLT‬‬ "A house is built by wisdom and becomes strong through good sense. Through knowledge its rooms are filled with all sorts of precious riches and valuables." What a beautiful MEF (minds eye flash) I had reading these verses. Looking at a piece of land, where a house is going to be built. It is bare, nothing there. Then all of a sudden, there is a foundation. However, the foundation has 'words' all over it! Words and sayings with phrases that are good and wise: foresight, experience, caution, knowledge, balance, learning.... Then there is a person, bent over, smoothing out the last bit of cement, and His name is Wisdom. I can just tell. It exudes from Him without Him even saying a word. What Does Twilight Look Like To You

Isaiah 21:4 (NIV) My heart falters, fear makes me tremble; the twilight I longed for has become a horror to me. This chapter contains prophecies against  Babylon ,  Edom  and  Arabia . However, this verse jumped out at me for a different reason. First of all, I had a bit of an MEF (mind’s eye flash) of sitting on a porch overlooking the vast sky towards a big open space. Watching the sun set. Actually sitting there anticipating the setting sun and all of the colors that will be painted across the sky at twilight. How amazing and beautiful the sky becomes each and every night, as God uses it to create a magnificent canvas of art for us to enjoy! I am absolutely amazed each time I see His wonderful sunsets! Then the MEF changed. These verses reminded me of the times I have lost loved ones. How that beautiful night sky became a symbol of the fear, yes even horror of the night to come. Proverbs 17:1 (NASB) “ Better is a dry morsel and quietness with it than a house full of feasting with strife. ” What is it like at your dinner table? Do you even sit at the table together as a family? Sadly, most of us have gotten out of this amazing habit. Instead, we are eating either in front of the TV or at a computer. No real conversations with other people. How about the table when it is a holiday? When you are gathering family members for the day, or even just a few hours, what are the conversations like when it is time to eat? Do you sit down together at one big table, or at smaller ‘groupings’ of tables? Do you all just pick a spot and eat off your lap? What are the conversations that go on at these gatherings?
