The Quilt of Life

Have you ever seen one of those quilts that you KNOW has taken MANY, MANY hours to do? One that shows pure artistry and skill at how each and every part was intentional by the creator?

2 Timothy 1:13-14 (NLT) Hold on to the pattern of wholesome teaching you learned from me—a pattern shaped by the faith and love that you have in Christ Jesus. Through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives within us, carefully guard the precious truth that has been entrusted to you.

Wow, the Lord blessed me with a MEF (minds eye flash) on this verse of a BIG elaborate quilt.

I saw a pattern being drawn on what seemed like a very large piece of paper, but it had a texture like fine linen. As I saw the words “teaching” there appeared all sorts of things that I have learned in life, in school and at home. The as I read “from me” I saw gold pictures with words in the colors of all the most precious jewels I’ve ever seen. It started to shine and glow with a light that spread all around me in every direction. The words “shaped by the faith and love” started showing actual shapes of people, places and things that emulate joy, love, peace, patience, kindness, understanding, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. A cross seemed to be in the center, no, all through the picture! In it, under it, through it… beauty and strength with a majesty that was actually breath taking. As I read the words “through the power of the Holy Spirit” there seemed to be a mist of a thread weaving in and out, up and down all over the picture all at one time. Some place it was slow and gliding as if very intentional. Other places it was quick and rapid like a machine. The edges, the middle, around each scene of each lesson learned in each picture/scene. There was like a mist that rose up and around the whole thing, that was so comforting. Seeing the many lessons I have learned in my life being filled with this thread brought to life the next thing I read “the Holy Spirit who lives within us” – it was truly as if the Spirit was IN each and every thing in this picture. I blinked and realized it was like a quilt. The biggest yet most manageable quilt you have ever seen! Every inch of it was something precious. Hard things, soft things. Good memories and bad. All lessons that I learned things through. Then, as I read the last part “carefully guard the precious truth that has been entrusted to you” – I suddenly saw something like a palace or a special prized possession case that was IN me. Or maybe it WAS ME! That this quilt was given to me and yet I needed to stand guard over it and the truths contained in it. Then as I blinked my eye, all of a sudden, the full armor of God started coming in towards me. I started realizing that the “truths” held within this quilt of my life, were to be guarded and protected. These truths I keep learning from the bible and the closeness of the relationship I have with Jesus ARE the Holy Spirit living in and through me! Well, the armor that showed up and was just floating there waiting for me to grab each piece and put it on. I was then to carefully guard this precious treasure entrusted to me. Wow!! I saw the angels that the Lord has charge over me standing right with me in full protection mode over me and this quilt. Pretty awesome!

Goodness! I really enjoy when He gives me these views of His word! I am praying that you see and understand that ALL of the pictures of your life (and mine) are what make up this amazing quilt of our life! The good, the bad, the ugly. The beautiful, the joyous – it all adds to the colors of our life. It is VERY comforting to me that the Lord has ALL of our tears over each of these pictures, held in a jar in His hands. Both happy and sad tears. He treasures each one. Yes, even the ones we suck back in and don’t let out! I pray that as you read this verse, that the Lord will show you a beautiful quilt of your life and the lessons you have been taught by His Spirit.
