What Kind Of Employee Are You
Colossians 3:22, 23, 25
Vs 22: “Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything you do. Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. Serve them sincerely because of your reverent fear of the Lord."
Vs 23: "Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people."
Vs 25: "But if you do what is wrong, you will be paid back for the wrong you have done. For God has no favorites."
Wow, direct. At your job, have you ever 'not liked your job'? Are you just there for the paycheck? Well, your boss is the owner/master and you are the slave. I know we don't have a real concept of this in our day and age, but the closest I could get, is our jobs. What IF, we were to work at our jobs like we ARE slaves?! Yes, some 'masters' are kind and generous, while others are mean, demanding, and have everyone on edge... BUT if we were to 'work' for them, because of our love and devotion to Jesus, as if we were working for Jesus - well, WOW!
Then Vs 25 pops up - ouch!! At our job, or at our work at home, when we serve and work as if we are working for Jesus, we 'should' be on our best behavior. However, sometimes, our sinful nature pops up, and we act or do something 'wrong'. In mind/thought or in action/behavior. God doesn't grade on a scale. Sin is sin. If it's taking home office supplies, taking too much time on a break, or not serving our boss with our best efforts... anything we do that goes against scripture, and Gods will - it is wrong. We MUST confess to God, come clean, ask for forgiveness so our slate is clean! However, there may still be consequences for our actions or lack of them. God really does NOT have favorites! He WILL judge everyone equally. Today, at your 'job' (at home, work or volunteer) be mindful. Serve your boss and coworkers as a bought and freed slave, who's very life was saved because of this boss. You earn a paycheck, or a roof over your head, provided by our True Boss/Master. Act like it. Work willingly at whatever you do.
