Do You Like Lightness or Darkness

We can NOT make “light” dark. We CAN make darkness light.

John 3:19-21 (MSG) “This is the crisis we’re in: God-light streamed into the world, but men and women everywhere ran for the darkness. They went for the darkness because they were not really interested in pleasing God. Everyone who makes a practice of doing evil, addicted to denial and illusion, hates God-light and won’t come near it, fearing a painful exposure. But anyone working and living in truth and reality welcomes God-light so the work can be seen for the God-work it is.”

Had a bit of a MEF (mind’s eye flash) on this. The world zoomed in and surrounded me. My space, my little spot here on the earth. I look around, and there is “light” – the light of day, a new day. It is light in weight, fresh, new, beaming with expectation of the day. Joy and peace seem to be like a blanket over and around me. I look up to the sky, and try to see where the switch is to make it “dark” – there isn’t one. Then flash – it is night. Darkness is all around me. It is heavy. I feel weighed down, oppressed even. There seems to be a feeling of dread, gloom, and despair. Depression even. I look around, and there it is, a switch to make the darkness “light”. I flip it on! And wahlah! Light! It is as if I hear running, screeching – like the wicked witch in The Wizard of Oz when water got thrown on her lol – only, it is a REAL feeling and something I am really hearing. As the light came on, the heaviness lifted. My thoughts of doom and gloom lifted, and I started to feel hope again.

It seems like, we have a natural tendency to “run to darkness” – why? Well, because it is our nature to do so, due to the fall of man into sin-nature. According to these verses (and many more in the bible) we are addicted to denial. That addiction keeps us from seeing and hearing the Truth as it really is from Jesus. We at heart, only want to please ourselves, not God. Yes, we all fall into practicing evil at times. However, it is how quickly we reach up our hands to our Heavenly Father and cry out for His Light – THAT is how we get all of the dark fears chased away! THAT is how we can see things as they really are! That makes us “working and living in truth welcoming God-light into our lives” – which is a WAY better way to spend our day than in the darkness.

We are called Children of Light, those that believe and follow Jesus. It is because of that Light, that Truth, that we even live at all. It is in our best interest to seek after, follow, and strive for imitating Jesus and the way He lived and walked and worked here on earth. Can we do it on our own? Ummm NO!! I can’t anyway. We need to daily put on the full armor of God and ask the Holy Spirit to help fasten it all together on us. The Holy Spirit is the only way we can do the will of God and please Him in living our life. We cannot get “comfortable” just ‘living’ – we actually are called to share Jesus with others, by living as He did.

Today, I am praying that you and I both allow God-light to shine in our day. That we are brave enough to ask the Holy Spirit to shine His light on anything that the Lord needs to “expose” to us – so that we can confess it, let Him remove it as far as the east is from the west, and move on to enjoying what He has in store for us today! Be well, be safe, and be blessed BIG time!
